Los Angeles...

Los Angeles is a great city but we also have great challenges that we need to solve if we're going to remain being the greatest city in the nation. The most important of our challenges is getting our economy moving again. Angelenos are hurting as they struggle to make ends meet. They are worried about their jobs and their future, and that of their children. I want to ensure that we leave them a city that is financially stronger and independent.

Economy

I am a free enterprise advocate who believes that lower taxes can encourage economic growth. Raising taxes stifles growth, weakens our economy and puts more people out of work. Our economy works best when individuals have more of their income to spend, and businesses have money to invest and add jobs. I will be a fiscal watchdog in the city and I will fight bigger government, higher taxes and wasteful spending.

Clean Air and Energy

I support common-sense environment policy that will help to reduce pollution and clean our air. I realize that without action now, future generations will be left to clean up the mess we leave. In order to reduce our air pollution, I support incentives for trucks and buses so they can use clean air vehicles. I oppose forcing companies to buy new vehicles because of the higher costs that families and businesses would incur.

Education

I am passionate about improving the quality of our public schools. Accountability and high standards are paramount. I support choice through charter schools. I will work to ensure that all children have access to a quality education. I will support legislations which provide lower income students with broader educational opportunitites.

Driver's licenses

I recognize that our strength as a city is built on the immigrant experience in our State. I welcome my fellow legal immigrants to this city. However, we are also a city of laws and government and our city should not adopt policies that encourage illegal immigration. Providing driver's licenses to undocumented immgrants will act as a magnet in drawing more people into our city in violation of federal law and it will impose new costs on taxpayers.

On the other hand, I also believe that our law enforcement agencies must be held at the highest standards of the law, that's why I oppose giving our police officers the authority to impound vehicles driven by unlicensed immigrants who do not owe the courts any fines derived from previous traffic citations. Allowing our officers to act as Jury, Judge, and Executioner after each traffic stop is a conflict of interest, tempts our officers to stop a driver based on his appereance, and corrupts our officers who then have to prepare a creative traffic report to legalize traffic stops the officers conducted
